Q: Does the international student have to have their own
room?
A:
No, they can share a room as long as they are of the same gender.
We do ask that you provide them a desk or a place to study.

Q: What about school fees and fines?
A:
The students are responsible for their own
school fees and for any fines they may incur. The host parent just needs
to remind them to pay it if they get a statement.

Q:What places am I required to take them?
A: The
student will need a ride to and from school daily.
If they are involved in sports they will need a ride after
practices and games. On
Saturday evenings at 6:30 there is a church service at the school for
the students. They will need a ride to and from that. Help with rides
can be arranged for unforeseen circumstances.
Students need to attend Sunday morning church (and whatever
services you attend). As
far as shopping, movies, etc.
You are the parent and you can decide if their request for
transportation is necessary.

Q:What if I am going out of town?
A:
If it is not a problem with missing school
you can always take the student with you.
If it is a situation where your student cannot go with you, other
host parents can keep your student while you are gone.

Q:What about holidays?
A:
Many
of the students will not be here for holidays because of prior
commitments. If they are
with you for holidays use them as a chance to teach American culture and
tradition.

Q: What if the student gets injured or sick?
A:
Many of the students carry international
medical insurance. However,
most of their claims must be processed in their home country.
Generally the student will pay for the doctor visit with a credit
card from home. Then their
family will file the paperwork.
In the rare occasion the student does not have a credit card or
cannot get a hold of a parent the host parent can pay the initial fee
and be reimbursed or they can contact the international office for help.

Q:What about computers?
A:
We strongly encourage students not to bring personal computers.
If they do bring them it is up to the host parent to monitor
their usage. We do not want
students using computers in their rooms ever!
They should only be used in the kitchen or living room areas.
Students that break the rules of computer usage will have them
taken away.
